Every time there is a change around the curriculum, Ofsted etc., various organisations write nice guides and summaries about these changes. At B Squared, we do the same, adding our take on what these changes are.
I am taking a day off from doing that and instead handing over to Abigail Hawkins, the SENSible SENCO, who has already written a great guide on the changes with the New Ofsted Framework 2024, on the SENsible SENCO blog.
We are Platinum Partners with SENsible SENCO. If you haven’t heard of them they are a community for SENCOs. They have a Facebook group with over 12,000 members and their website has amazing resources. The lowest level of membership is FREE, but they also have paid options adding more support, features and benefits. For more information, visit the SENsible SENCO website…
The main changes to the Ofsted Inspection framework are:
- No Overall Effectiveness Judgement
- Greater Emphasis on Individualised Progress for SEN Pupils
- Increased Focus on SEN Attendance and Safeguarding
- Exclusion Should Be a Last Resort
- Curriculum Flexibility for SEN Pupils
Why These Changes Matter for SENCOs
The Ofsted Framework 2024 SEN Changes allow schools to demonstrate their SEN provision in a way that truly reflects the support SEN pupils receive. By focusing on individual progress and personalised support, your school can show Ofsted how it’s making a difference for pupils with additional needs.
What this means for you as a SENCO:
- Prepare your team for inspections with a focus on how your school is supporting the individual progress of SEN pupils.
- Ensure your school’s attendance and safeguarding practices for SEN pupils meet the new expectations.
- Equip staff with the right training and skills to support SEN pupils more effectively.
- Show evidence of alternatives to exclusion, proving your school is using inclusive behaviour management strategies.
